2010 General Election
Kenny offered each of our general election candidates the opportunity to have their say on our website about their position regarding the ownership of the beach, the Par docks development program and any and all other beach issues that may be of interest to our membership.
We have had the following replies and they are listed in order that we received them.

"I grew up in the area and now still regularly use Par Beach. It plays a vital role in the area. I worked with residents to oppose the Council's plan to sell parts of the beach and support plans for the beach to be managed by the Parish council and will do whatever I can if I'm the MP to ensure that the beach remains open to one and all."

"Par Beach is one of those vital public breathing spaces that any Council or Government that cared about natural beauty and the views of local people would protect. What is wonderful is that it was people power that fought to prevent the sale of the land by the former Borough Council. I know you probably think that UKIP is the party that just goes on about Europe but what really motivates us is freedom and democracy in local communities. One of the changes that we would bring in is local binding referendums. That would mean that if any threat developed in future to Par Beach , or anywhere else, and the community wanted to stop that threat, then by holding a local referendum you would stop it. You would not have to try to persuade Councillors or Inspectors, a local referendum would be binding and Councils and Governments would have to accept it. It would have stopped the St. Dennis incinerator. That's true democracy. If I was your MP that is what I would fight for but if UKIP were not in Government and could not institute those reforms then you can be assured that I would fight for you and for Par Beach to be a protected area."

Conservative Parliamentary Candidate
St Austell and Newquay
"I have been pleased to support local residents in the campaign for Par Beach. I was one of the speakers at the Restormel Meeting and have championed your calls for it to be managed by the Parish Council. I was pleased too to attend your inaugural meeting of the Friends of Par Beach and have joined you out beach-cleaning! I promise to continue to champion the aims of your campaign and to do all I can to get the result you rightly deserve. Par Beach for local people, managed by local people."

"As a former member of Restormel Borough Council, I well remember the debate around the proposal to sell off the freehold of the caravan site. At the debate, I took the view that Restormel should keep the area in public ownership, through the Parish Council if possible. That remains my position.
In terms of the 'eco-town' development at Par Docks, I have been one of the main critics of the proposal and the fact that central government is dictating to local people what should be built. I believe local people should decide what happens in their areas. While on Restormel I attended numerous meetings about this proposal and was among the councillors who made sure that the concerns of people such as the Boat Club were not ignored."
