Beach Seating Fund

Friends of Par Beach are raising money to purchase and install seating on "our patch". We are hopeful that for every £1 we raise we will be able to get £1 matched funding which will double the pot.

The money that we raise for the seating fund is ring fenced (which means we won't spend it on anything else). We also hope to attract some direct sponsorship for benches in their entirety - we will add more ideas and information here as we go along. Do please contact us if you're able to do some fundraising, every penny helps us get closer to some more seating.

Outdoor seating varies dramatically in style, robustness and cost. A basic decent bench is likely to cost more than you would expect, over £300 exc. VAT, and you could pay thousands depending on what you want. The decision on what style, when and where to put the benches will not just be down to Friends of Par Beach members, we will be consulting with the Access Group and Cornwall Council and other interested parties along the way.

THERMOMETER UPDATED: 4th February 2013

4th February 2013
All four benches are now in situ. Do use them and share your photos with us! You've all been brilliant, thank you for your support.

12th January 2013
The first seat has been installed at the Western End Car Park with Mike Freemantle trying it out. Mike, our Ex-Chairman raised a large chunk of the money needed for these seats by cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats. Many thanks to Park Leisure who installed it on our behalf, Mike for the rather long cycle ride and the many others who made donations to enable this to happen. More seats will be appearing soon.

10th December 2012
We have taken delivery of four benches and a team from Park Leisure (the caravan park) are going to install them for us in pre-agreed positions!

16th November 2012
We have some exciting news coming soon, as four benches are about to be ordered!

29th July 2012 - £1374
We won £650 from the Big Lottery grants yesterday to put towards beach seating. Well done to the committee members who worked on the application and presentation on the day.

7th July 2012 - £724
We applied for and received some "matched funding" which has taken our beach seating fund over £700. With the shelter being removed this month, seating is becoming a bigger issue than it was.

12th January 2012 - £524
We hope to announce some extra funding we've been awarded for this project soon. We are in talks about the beach seating and it has by no means been forgotten about. Please help boost the fund a little if you can.

25th August - £524
We're so pleased with the beach fund, do please continue to help us by keeping donations coming in.

19th July - £503
We're doing really well :)

5th July - £360
The thermometer is creeping up, thank you everyone, please keep the donations coming in so we can get some seating.

29th May - £300
Sponsorship is still coming in from Mike's bike ride.

21st June - £220
Mike Freemantle has completed his sponsored bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats. That's an astounding 1,103.3 miles through wind, rain and sun. All the money that has been pledged for the ride will go to the Beach Seating Fund. What an amazing start to the fund it is. Current pledges are over £200 with a lot more coming in. We hope to have the final sponsorship totals within a couple of weeks.

19th May - £0
Mike (Friends of Par Beach chairman) started his sponsored bike ride from Lands End to John O'Groats today. A blog and live map can be found on the Tired Cyclists website.
