Par beach, near St Austell, is an expansive sandy beach flanked on one side by the green fields of the Gribbin headland and on the other by the industrial landscape of the man-made port and buildings relating to the china clay industry.

Rosemary Lee is a choreographer who has created a range of work over the last 30 years, from large-scale site-specific works and solo works to video installations and short films. Regardless of their scale, these projects have an intimate quality and often explore our relationship with our environment.

Venue: Par Beach Local Nature Reserve (LNR)
Time: 10:30am – 12:30pm

Friends of Par Beach have again joined forces with the Opal Project and will be holding a Fungi and Lichen Survey event. This is aimed at children and is a family event.

Under the guidance of Dr Owen Smith from Plymouth University discover more about the incredible variety of fungi and lichens that can be seen on Par Sands Local Nature Reserve at this time of year. He will guide you through OPAL’s Explore Nature pack to identify fungi and lichens and explain how local air quality impacts on our natural environment.

To learn more about the OPAL Project see their website http://www.opalexplorenature.org/

This is a free event for all and there is no need to book.

Meet by the statue at the western end of the beach access road. Please note car parking charges still apply.

Please wear appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather, it may be wet underfoot so sensible footwear is recommended.

If you have any questions please contact us using our Contact Us page or call Phil on 01726 817396.

There is a growing feeling, partly initiated by the National Trust that a child who hasn't had the opportunity to get out into the natural environment to build dens, interact with the local flora and fauna etc is missing out on a great deal in their development and this event would be great opportunity for them.

Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm

This event has been rescheduled from Saturday 30th July to Saturday August 13th August

Friends of Par Beach have joined forces with the Opal Project and will be holding a Bug Count Survey event. This is aimed at children and is a family event. We will be holding this on and around the Orchid Field at the western end of the Beach Local Nature Reserve. Friends of Par Beach believe it is important to connect children with nature and this event is one our initiatives in achieving this.

Time: 10.30am to 12.30pm

Venue: Meet by the statue/gate to Orchid Field and Slipway towards the end of the beach access road

The OPAL website is worth a look too: http://www.opalexplorenature.org/. There is a large amount of info about the project with photos, photographs and videos. There are various newsletters from this organisation available in PDF format.

There is a growing feeling, partly initiated by the National Trust a few years ago that a child who hasn't had the opportunity to get out into the natural environment to build dens etc. and interact with the local flora and fauna etc is missing out on a great deal in their development and this event would be great opportunity to further this ideal.

Booking: FoPB request that you book your place please call Phil on 01726 817396 or use our contact us page

Dogs welcome but must be kept under control on a lead.
